Ginko Biloba Tree

Amazingly enough, the ginko biloba tree can be traced back 300 million years - which means it is the oldest living species of tree. The ginko biloba tree is native to China but is now grown on plantations in France and South Carolina as well due to its great commercial value. Ginko biloba was the best selling herb in Europe in the 1990s. I have always favored the tree just because of its unique beauty with fan-leaves and smooth bark.
Interestingly, ginko is an herb that is defined more on the whole, then in parts. For many herbs, one constituent can show how it creates effects on the body for healing or treating problems. Ginko biloba, however, is known to work more as a whole herb, where the many constituents that make up the plant interact in order to offer its helpful effects on the human body.
