Adaptive Native Australian Plant Eucaliptus

The eucaliptus is an adaptive native australian plant such that it evolved to endure the harsh, arid landscape of australia, even becoming quite fire tolerant. The volatile oils from the eucaliptus tree, excesive litter production, and flammable bark all promote fires. This is only understandable if one knows that the eucaliptus tree is capable of surviving fires, possibly because of its great height which saves some of its most valuable life support parts, and because the species can actually propogate itself quite well after fires. So many regions that have eucaliptus trees have high frequency of fire.
Another example of eucaliptus' adaptiveness is its extensive root system which is capable of conducting huge quantities of water - which does aid the tree, but also creates a barren soil for surrounding species of plants.
