Tee Tree Oil

As Europeans and Americans settled (and conquered) regions throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the traditions of these regions' indigenous folks were learned by the settlers. Some of this tradition was how to use the native plant species in herbal medicine. This happened in Australia, where European settlers learned about the healthful properties of tee tree oil from Aborigines.

Though settlers decimated much of the Aboriginal people and customs, herbal studies have recovered some of the knowledge of native plants that were used in this culture. Essential oils from tee trea and eucalyptus are popularly used as antiseptics.
