Callendula

Callendula is also called a Marigold and is in the same family as Arnica, thus sharing some of that herb's wound-healing properties. A callendula poultice is useful in healing topical wounds, like burns, scrapes, allergic skin reactions and inflammation. Callendula is also seen as a detoxifying herb which is a rational conclusion since the skin is said to be an extension of the liver and kidneys by processing out waste from the body. The herb is known to help in supporting the excretory system.
Callendula is an herb I use often for an infusion that I spritz on my cat with skin allergies. I simmer 1 teaspoon of callendula flowers, 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers, and 1 teaspoon of oregon grape root for 15 minutes in 1 cup of water. It is temporary relief, but he also ingests some of it which I believe helps relieve internal inflammation he is prone to, as well. An added benefit is that he seems to calm down after a good spritz which helps him relax.
