The camomile flower is the part of the plant that is used in herbal remedies. There are several important chemical compounds that have been found which are behind the age old benefits of camomile. When one sees the camomile essential oil, it is blue, which is puzzling when you know that the flowers are white, yellow and daisy-like. This compound is called azulene. Azulene has two constituents to it: chamazulene and bisabolol.
Chamazulene is responsible for relieving pain, healing wounds, reliveing muscles spasms, and working as an anti-inflammatory. Bisabolol is anti-microbial and has been shown to heal and prevent ulcers. Finally, another chemical in the camomile flower is belliferone which has anti-fungal properties.
