Milk Thisle

With a long European history to back it up, milk thisle is certainly the herb of choice when treating liver problems. In fact, more and more scientific evidence is being collected and allopathic practioners are recommending milk thisle. Silymarin is the chemical within the milk thisle plant that is the focus of most research. This substance seems to protect the liver by improving its function and preventing harmful substances from creating damage to the liver tissue.

Milk thisle is used throughout Europe, especially, to treat patients with hepatitis and cirrhosis. Silymarin seems to be able to help regenerate liver tissue, as well, so that the damaging effects to the organ may be refersed in some circumstances. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be much help from milk thisle if the patient is already seriously effected by liver diseases.
