The valarian plant can be grown in many areas of the northern hemisphere. There are many different varieties, some of the most potent said to come from England and America. The root of the valarian plant is what is used to make the herbal remedy that has been dubbed a "cure-all" over the centuries.
Valarian is used as a sleep aid, a sedative, an aid for menstrual pain and even digestive trouble. In fact, any one source on the uses of the valarian plant will leave off something that is included in another. Interestingly, there are some studies that show valarian acting as a stimulant in some persons even though it is so well known as a calmative. Thus lending evidence that paying attention to the body's reactions to any substance is important in any health regiman.
