What about growing ginsing? Is it something that one can do to avoid the high prices of premium root? Firsly, harvesting of the ginsing root does not occur for five to ten years into the life of the plant. So the price is a reflection of the demand versus the availablity. But if one has the desire and patience, its a beautiful plant. There are suppliers online that will also send growing instructions for ginsing. The most important aspect is 75-80% shade for the plant. In general, this means a heavy canopy of deciduous trees with a soil that already shows that its capable of supporting undergrowth. Established rooted plants are easier to start with, but seeds are also available.
