Ginsing plants used for herbal medicine have been researched in Italy. In a scientifically valid, double blind study, ginsing was shown to be an immune stimulant to people that were given the influenza vaccine. Antibody activity rose significantly higher in response to the vaccine in people that were on ginsing as opposed to the people who only received the placebo. There are many constituents in the chemical makeup of ginsing, thus lending it the ability, perhaps, to affect the immune system so well. The different preparations of ginsing could also make a difference since white ginsing, the raw, unprocessed root has a different chemical make-up than red ginsing, which is steamed and heat dried. This is basic science, of course, since heat affects molecular bonds.
