Pepermint oiled cotton balls and sprays can be used to ward off little rodents from your humble aboad. If you have a 6 ounce spray bottle and put 10-20 drops in it, then you'll probably need to give your entrances a spritz everyday. Cotton balls placed stategically around the room, say 5 of them, will last a few days with about 5 drops of oil on them.
Remember that essential oils can be toxic to pets, especially cats. Their kidneys aren't quite capable of metabolizing the compounds like ours - so this might not be a safe option for your household.
