American ginsing is one species of many ginsing plants used for herbal medicine. American ginsing is Panax quinquefolius, while Panax ginseng is called Asian ginsing. The common names indicate where they are propogated. Both are used for their health promoting properties. Another type of classification of ginsing is whether it is white or red. White ginsing refers to dried, unprocessed root of the plant, while the steamed and heat dried root is call red ginsing. The two forms may have different means of helping the body according to Chinese herbal medicine.
