In order to get a quality grade powdered form of Stivia on your own using the leaves, the process seems rather tedious and time consuming. It may be worth your while to buy the powdered product. The process involves removing the stem and veins so that pulverizing the leaves leads to an end product that is smooth.
A recipe for the extract of stivia seems to be more readily available and possibly less tedious. Take 300 grams of the fresh leaves, chop them up and put into 1 liter of alcohol. Shake for 2 minutes and place in a cool, dark area for 2 weeks. Filter the liquid from the leaves and put the extract in a dark bottle for storage. You can lightly warm the liquid to help evaporate the alcohol and add water to dilute to your taste.
