Horsechestnut

Horsechestnut has scientific evidence of helping with varicose veins. It can be taken internally or used topically with the effect of tightening the tissue and helping to ease vein swelling. The bark, the seeds and the leaves are used for creating astrigent lotions to apply locally. Capsules or tablets are readily available in herbal supply stores or online. Be aware that horsechestnut can cause gastrointestinal problems so it may be best to take it with the help of an herbal specialist nearby.
Horsechestnut can also help with fluid retention which occurs when enlarged veins leak fluid - the herb allows the fluid to be absorbed back in the circulatory system. Be aware of using whole plant preparations as opposed to single consituents from horsechestnut - evidence has shown that an active ingredient of the herb called aescin is not readily available to the digestive system. Remember that many herbs do not work effectively when its constituents are separated - they rely on each other for interactions within your system.
