Aniseseed

Aniseseed, or simply anise, can be very helpful in relieving the painful cramping that can occur from trapped gas. You may be aware of the seed mixture sitting in a bowl on your way out of an Indian restaurant - this is a mixture of fennel seeds, aniseseeds (actually the dry anise fruit), and licorice. Its such a helpful relief after a spicy Indian meal.

Aniseseed is native to the Eastern Mediterannean and Western Asia. Much of the aniseseed we see on the market today is from Spain, however, with Turkey also being a major supplier.
