Herpies can be painful so taking prescription meds may be the only option for some people who have frequent and long outbreaks. But if you would like to limit the amount you spend on prescriptions and find some remedies to use at home then consider some basic steps to easing the outbreaks.
A nice bath with a cup of astringent like witch hazel would be good. Even baking soda will help itching and soreness. Then dry, dry, dry. Keeping the area dry is very helpful in reducing the longevity of the blisters. Heck use a blowdryer on cool for those hard to reach places and you'll even find it soothing. Then try Super Lysine Plus topically. Again, the lysine helps block another amino acid that is needed for herpes virus replication, so the ointment may help break the viral replication cycle.
