Hodia gordonii

Hodia gordonii is a native succulant plant to southern Africa. It is not a cactus as you may see advertised. Though it was used traditionally as an appetite suppressant by the indigenous San people, its purpose was to help stave off hunger during hardtimes. This is hardly a reason to market the herb as an appetite suppresant for weight loss - let alone a safe way to loss weight.
There is no hard evidence that hodia gordonii is safe for long term use, let alone effective in actually helping someone loss weight. It was used infrequently and sparingly in dire times for a serious reason, and the media and pharmaceutical companies have turned that into a multinational demand for the plant. Until I see some hard facts, I'll remain skeptical.
