Ah, that's a good question. I do not know the chemistry of what would happen with the detergent and the oil. Let's see...if you think about it, an oil in water solution should work just as well. Or even just oil on a cotton ball in a strategic place. The detergent is more for creating a barrier for insects, I'd say. Of course, there are a lot of new natural cleaners out there that already have peppermint in them, so they know something we don't as far as the interaction of the chemicals together. > I raise birds and have mice problems.
