There do not seem to be any specific don quai side effects listed for use with pets. The literature supports the same use of this herb as it does with humans. In cats, especially, don quai is recommended to aid in helping the uterus remain in a healthful condition with long term use.

Though don quai does not have any specific hormonal traits, it seems to support the system that regulates hormones and, thus, is helpful in the overall maintenance and production of hormones in the body. These of course are important in all aspects of a healthy body, including pets. It may even help relax pets, possibly because of it's properties that can control muscle spasms.
