Don quai herbal medicine can be administered through capsules, tea, infusions, decoctions or injections of a preparation. The words infusions and decoctions always confused me when I started using whole herbs. It always seemed simpler to buy the pills, but there is something very satisfactory in researching and purchasing the whole herb and then making a preparation oneself. Perhaps this aids in the process of health that one is trying to achieve. The mind is never far from the body...
An infusion is similar to a tea, except that the leaves and flowers used from the herb ususally remain in the boiled water for 5 to 10 minutes, then strained and taken upwards of 5 times a day. A decoction is the word used when the bark, roots, or berries are used to boil 20 to 30 minutes with water and then strained. 3 to 4 cups of this are drunk each day.
