Cardamum
Posted By: Maureen Date: Thursday, July 6 2006, at 7:16 p.m.
Cardamum is a great tasting herb often seen as an ingredient in breads and other baked goods. Cardamum was always a part of my life because my grandmother, who was from Finland, was an excellent bread maker and her "nisu" always had the black flecks of cardamum included. Little did I know that it could also have some beneficial medicinal effects. Cardamum was used in China, and now in western herbal medicine, as a supplement to gluten-rich foods like oatmeal cereal so that those who are gluten intolerant are able to digest the food. It has also been known to help with regular digestion for anyone.
The recommended dosage is a sprinkle of powdered cardamum on food before eating, or a whole capsule of cardamum powder before a meal.
