Herbal Remidies for Horses

Herbal remidies for horses are common if you look through an equine health supply catalogue. It is important to thoroughly read about the herbs since not all herbs work the same way in animals as they do in people. In general, though, there seem to be similarities in using herbs with horses as with ourselves. For instance, some of the main ingredients used in calming formulas for horses are valerian and chamomile. Echinacea infusion is suggested when the horse may be under stress or when his situation is changing to help protect his immune system. Garlic and brewer's yeast are recommended internally and externally to help deter flies from hanging around a horse.

Even specific hormonal problems can be helped, for instance with young mares, by treating them with raspberry leaf or chaste berry to help balance their system. Even a mare can have PMS, and the same herbs we use may be helpful, like dong quai, licorice and black cohosh. Its best to use a holistic verterinarian to help you choose your remidies for the safety of your animal.
