Eczema is the body's reaction to something topical, like a plant or a metal, or something internal, like food intolerance or emotional stress. Oftentimes, it is difficult to pinpoint where the problem is coming from and one experiences inflammation and irritation of the skin. Conventional medicine treats eczema with steroids, but there is evidence that long term use of steroids has adverse effects on the body so looking for alternative means of healing is beneficial in the long run.

Herbal remidies can be helpful with eczema as external applications as well as internal preparations. Comfrey or marigold are good to reduce swelling and promote healing. A cream made with chickweed is especially helpful with the intense itching of eczema. Weeping sores can be soothed and dried with red clover or heartsease. Internally, take teas of herbs that help rid the body of toxins, like nettle, burdock, or yellowdock.
