Growing tumeric may be a little difficult if you are not in a temperate or even tropical region. It needs a very warm climate, lots of water, and soil that drains well. Planting for tumeric usually starts in early fall and harvesting happens 10 months later. Rhizomes are the main part of the plant that are used in medicinal remedies, as well as for flavoring food. The leaves, however, can also be used to spice culinary dishes. In order to plant the herb the rhizomes are needed to propogate the plant. Again, there are plenty of online sources for purchasing the starts.
