Tumeric is good for flavoring food but don't forget that it can also be used as an herbal remedy. It is often used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as Ayurveda. In fact, it has some pretty strong indications. Tumeric contains cancer fighting antioxidents as well as seems to act similarly to silymarin, found in another herb called milk thistle, that can help improve liver function. It can do this by increasing liver cell production and helping the cells to function correctly.
Tumeric is a good anti-inflammatory and has been shown to be as effective as cortisone. It is incredibly safe and does not seem to have any side effects. Tumeric is listed on the FDAs GRAS list (generally regarded as safe).
