The kudzo vine was introduced to the United States from China in the early 20th century. It became an invasive species and threatens some of the native plant species in the southern states. It grows incredibly well and is useful as a deep south food for livestock and people. It was brought into the country just for that reason as well as to control soil erosion, but as happens with many foreign species, animal or plant, they sometimes have a negative effect on their new environment if they thrive too well.
Regardless, kudzo is often seen as an important cure for a hangover. Plus, animal research has shown that animals addicted to alcohol will actually choose an extract with kudzo instead of alcoholism and thus is being researched to treat alcoholism in people.
