Use horse chesnut for hemorrhoids; it is scientifically proven to help relieve this problem. The aescin constituent in horse chesnut has the ability to lessen swelling in the veins as well as improving the elasticity of the veins to make them more cabable of working correctly. Unfortunately, there are warnings that even at recommended dosages, horse chesnut can cause gastointestinal upset. It is actually toxic at high dosages. It is also cautioned that horse chesnut should not be used by people with liver and kidney problems or by people on blood thinning medications.
The preparation recommended for reducing hemorrhoids is a tablet or capsule of the extract. I did not find literature recommending using the a cream with this problem. One source recommends making sure that the extract contains 16 to 20% aescin to be effective. Once horse chesnut provides results the dosage can be cut in half. Follow recommended dosages on the product labels.
