Gota kola is an important Ayervedic herb used historically with skin problems and as a tonic. The herb is taken in India to rejuvenate the body and help increase mental function. It may also help with fertility and improve digestion. In the west, gota kola is mostly used for skin problems and as a wound healer. The constituents in the herb called asiaticosides can promote healing of wounds by speeding collagen formation and helping blood vessels form. It may also lend a large quantity of antioxidents to the wound in the first stages of healing.
Other uses that gota kola have been purported to have are to treat fevers, asthma, bronchitis and to promote new hair growth.
