Spearamint oil may help with headaches because the herb is a natural pain reliever. It is also seen as an antispasmotic, which means it relieves muscle tension. Though this trait is usually spoken of when dealing with the digestive system since spearamint can be so helpful in this human system, it may be a logical jump to suppose that spearamint may help with muscle tension in other areas of the body. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why it can also help calm headaches as I have many headaches due to tense back, neck, and jaw muscles.
The literature does point out that spearamint and other mints are important for treating headaches having to due with digestive problems, so again this may have a lot to due with relieving muscle tension.
