Essential Oils for Yoga

Good choices of essential oils for yoga routines would be those herbs that relieve mental and physical tension and provide a sense of well-being to the mind. Depending on your routine's purpose, stimulating essential oils may also be useful for a morning session, for example, when you must get ready to face the day.

Some energizing herbs are basil, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lemon and peppermint. Some mind relieving, anti-anxiety essential oils are bergamot, cedarwood, lavendar, orange, and rose. One source lists some "spiritual" essential oils and most of the explanations have to do with historical references to how cultures have made associations with the smells. For example, some cultures believed that burning wood brought them closer to nature and their diety so an essential oil like sandalwood is often seen as "spiritual". This catagory may be more personal than others since associations are needed.
