Chammomile

Chammomile is an essential addition to the herbal first aid kit. It is a useful herb in many situations. It can relieve anxiety and calm someone down in the event of stress. It can also relieve gastrointestinal upset - after a big meal, or when stress doesn't mix well with your meal. Chammomile is even an excellent herb to use as compresses for eye problems. Two warm tea bags with chammomile flowers have helped ease my itchy eyes when I'm in a different part of the country and my eyes are getting used to (or not) the allergens in that area.

The chammomile eye compresses can help with infections such as pink eye. When my cats eyes react to the herpes virus and get puffy and weepy, I'll dip cotton balls in a chammomile infusion and clean their eyes twice a day - its a great remedy to sooth their eyes and it seems to help limit the time the virus affects their eyes.
