Stivia
Posted By: Maureen Date: Thursday, June 29 2006, at 6:33 p.m.
Stivia has become a popular alternative to sugar for sweetening numerous foods and beverages. It actually has a long history of use in South American countries as a sweetener. Stivia is an actual plant and, in today's world, this may come as a surprise that the substance isn't 100% from a laboratory. Not so, stivia actually comes from a plant originally cultivated in Paraguay.
Stivia is actually suggested to sweeten your food in the afternoon. Sometimes, a load of sugar can give you an energy boost but then lead to a downer after a short time, but stivia will not have this effect. Instead it can help balance sugar levels in the body so that you are feeling energetic without the downswing. Stivia can be found in packs at the grocery store in the sugar section.
