The birdock root, specifically, contains polyacetylenes which have antibiotic effects on the body. Decoctions and tinctures of the root can be used for skin infections, acne, eczema and to help the body heal from illnesses by eliminating wastes products. Birdock is also considered antibacterial and antifungal, is a diuretic and can lower blood sugar levels. Its no wonder that birdock is a heavily studied herb and a popular remedy throughout the world.

Birdock was even used historically to treat kidney stones as the seeds seemed to break up the stones and then be able to push them out of the system.
