Black Cohash and Pregnancy

There is some evidence that black cohash may be used, not during pregnancy, but during labor. In fact, black cohash in contraindicated for pregnancy, per se, because it stimulates the uterus and may cause premature contractions. It is also noted to not be used during nursing as there are no significant studies to show its safety during this time.
Literature briefly points to black cohash being useful in childbirth. It seems to be able to help the uterus contract properly during delivery. But considering that one does not know if its healthy to breastfeed with black cohash in the system, perhaps more herbal research should be conducted when choosing herbs for childbirth and a alternative health practitioner can recommend something safe.
