Of the many benefits of black cohash for menopausal symptoms, like hot flashes, headaches, and depression - the herb does not seem to have the added effects of preventing osteoporosis or heart disease. However, the benefits that it does offer may be enough to give a woman hope in better forms of treatment. For women that want extremely low doses of estrogen therapy, black cohash supplementation may mean a better inhibition of nasty menopause symptoms.
There are many consituents that have been studied in black cohash that lead to an understanding of its excellent benefits. Anemonin is a constituent that aids in depressing the central nervous system and thus sedate the body to relieve anxiety. Salicylates in the herb have anti-inflammatory properties. Other compounds can lower blood sugar and blood pressure.
