Black cohash has several historical uses outside of treating women during PMS or menopause. It seems to help with rheumatoid arthritis and tinnitus (ear ringing). It seems helpful in these cases by being an anti-inflammatory and sedative, respectively. However, cautions are listed in most literature about this herb.
Even though it does not produce any side effects other than mild-gastrointestinal problems, overdoses can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness and vomiting. Black cohash can also lower blood pressure and blood sugar - this should be considered if one is taking medication for high blood pressure or diabetes.
