Black cohash is often seen as an herb to help with many women's health issues. It is a native plant to the northeastern United States and was historically used by Native Americans. It has some interesting common names like squawroot, bugbane and black snakeroot. Black cohash comes with a prominent caution in literature - overdosing with this herb can lead to serious circumstances and a practioner's help in using this herb in recommended.

The parts of the black cohash plant that are used are the dried taproot and rhizomes. In Native American history it was indicated for women going through PMS that had a "black cloud" hanging over their heads.
