Psylium husks can be useful to draw out infections. When soaked, psylium husks have the ability to draw in toxins. So, for instance, an infusion of calendula with added psylium husks is an effective way to draw out infections from boils or abscesses and sooth the membranes. Psylium is also a demulcent when means it aids in reducing inflammation and helps in soothing a wound.

Infections can also be drawn out of the digestive system with psylium. This is why it is considered a detoxifying herb since it pulls out toxins and eliminates them from the body. It is important to use water with psylium husks because this is part of the reason why it is able to draw the infections from your body into itself. Also, this helps create the mucous that coats the membranes.
