Psylium

Psylium, or flea seed, is a natural laxative. The parts of the plant that are used are the seeds and husks of the seeds. There are three species that are grown all over the world and cultivated. Scientific evidence shows that psylium is safe and effective as a laxative and as an antidiarrheal. Psylium seems to be especially effective with constipation when the underlying cause is overtense muscles that inhibits proper bowel function.

The seeds and husks are high in fiber and when soaked in water increase in size considerably and have a mucous like texture. This helps by increasing the bulk of stool and getting it pushed out of the system, as well as easing the path with its demulcent properties.
