German Licrice

Licrice has so many benefits other than as a common candy and flavoring agent. German licrice, Finnish licrice, Dutch licrice - many countries have specific brands of high profile candies, but the most interesting thing to know about licrice is that it has been used for thousands of years as a tonic for many human bodily systems. Licrice was even found in Egyptian tombs and recorded for its medicinal uses.

I've always been leary of vague terms like "tonic", and search for explanations and examples of what this actually means in healing the body. The definitions in literature remain vague however - a tonic strengthens and enlivens the organs of the body and most work on the body as a whole but can have a singular effect on one specific organ. So, thought this doesn't shed any scientific light; at least we know to look for the specific constituents or interactions of constituents that have effects based on long standing tradition.
