Red Panex Ginseng

Red Panex ginseng refers to Asian ginseng which is steamed. The root is normally white, but when steamed, it turns a pinkish color. There is a distinction because the chemical compounds are, in fact, altered by adding heat to the plant. Conceivably, then, the herbal properties themselves are altered. In Chinese Traditional Medicine, the different forms of ginseng can be used for different purposes.
I've read one US practitioner though that does not use ginseng much. It seems the assurance of a quality product coming from Asia is not guaranteed and studies have shown that some products that say they have ginseng do not contain any amount of the herb or traces. Also, the indigenous ginseng to the states, Panax quinquefolium, is on the threatened species list from overharvesting.
