Pepermint

Pepermint, far from just being the flavor of gum and candy, has been used for its medicinal properties for centuries. You may remember your mother rubbing salve on your chest before going to bed when your nose was stuffy or you had a bad cold. This salve contained pepermint oil. It is an effective herb for breaking up mucous in the respiratory system.
Pepermint oil can also be added to a humidifier and can act the same way as the salve only as an inhalant. This is an effective and pleasant way to administer the herb. I often use a face steam, being really careful to close my eyes before placing my head over the steaming pot and covering it with a towel. 5 drops per 2 or 3 cups of water provides plenty of pepermint wafting through the air.
