Passon flower is a mild tranquilizer that has similar effects on the human system as valarian or kava, but more mild. It can also be used to calm the digestive track mildly like lemon balm and chamomile. Interestingly, passon flower is a well studied herb, but with little to show for it as the constituents are a conundrum. It seems that the components of passon flower rely on each other in order to offer benefits to the human body. This seems to be encountered quite often when researching plant compounds.

So, the chemicals of passon flower work synergistically, as they say, or rather in order for them to work at all they must interact and react to each other to produce the mild sedative, tranquilizing and antispasmodic effects that help a person remain calm under pressure or to relax when needed.
