Ginko Biloba Leaf

The fan of the ginko biloba leaf is by far one of the most interesting in the plant world. Ginko leaves are not like any other leaves of deciduous trees. They do not have a network of veins like many tree leaves; the veins arise from the base of the leaf and travel in a straight line to the edge. Even the reproductive organs of the tree are very different than other deciduous trees. Interestingly, ginko biloba trees are used often to beautify cities because they have a curious adaptation of withstanding a lot of pollution. Perhaps this explains their extreme life span of the millenium and why it is seen as a link between higher order and lower order plants.
The ginko biloba leaf's structure is actually the reason for part of its name. The Chinese work Ginkyo gave way to the genus name, while the biloba is a simple Latin terminology that means "2 lobes" - looking at the leaf one can see that the "fan" is, in fact, sliced barely into two sections.
