Echinacia

Echinacia is probably one of the best known herbal supplements in the western world today. Marketing has probably made it so, but it certainly has a history to back it up. As a native North American plant, echinacia was in the medicine box of American Indians, used to heal snake bites and for general healing purposes.
Today, echinacia is still used topically to aid with skin problems or bites and scratches. Along with it's excellent healing properties, echninacea also soothes the symptoms. What may be the mostly widely known characteristic of echinacia is that it aids in reducing cold and flu symptoms. Echinacia must be used early on in the stages of these afflictions, or even before, when you know your body may be suseptible. If used correctly, though, echinacia helps increase white blood cell production and fend off infection and it can even counter viruses.
